2009 Holidays
Sometimes when booking shoots and workshops, people forget about the holidays–me included. So I’ve created this page to help me keep track, though keep in mind, when you’re self-employed, about the only holidays I take are Christmas, Easter and Veteran’s Day. If I can squeeze it in, Thanksgiving Day is tops on my list followed by the 4th of July! Regardless if your schedule is as busy as mine, here’s the list:
Federal Legal Holidays 2009
• January 1, 2009: New Year’s Day [Jan. 1 every year]
• January 19, 2009: Martin Luther King Day [3rd monday in Jan]
• January 20, 2009: Inauguration Day [every 4th year]
• February 16, 2009: Presidents Day (observed) [3rd monday in Feb]
note: Presidents Day is also Washington’s Birthday (observed)
• May 25, 2009: Memorial Day (observed) [last monday in May]
• July 4, 2009: Independence Day [July 4 every year]
• September 7, 2009: Labor Day [1st monday in Sept]
• October 12, 2009: Columbus Day (observed) [2nd monday in Oct]
• November 11, 2009: Veterans’ Day [Nov. 11 every year]
• November 26, 2009: Thanksgiving Day [4th thursday in Nov]
• December 25, 2009: Christmas Day [Dec. 25 every year]
Notice there are no U.S. observed holidays in March, April, June and August.
Note: The Federal Holidays listed above are "observed," which means the actual holiday celebration day, not necessarily the actual date of the holiday and most people get that day off. Normally banks are closed, the U.S. Post Office and many city and state government offices are closed too. Most publich schools and the financial markets are closed too, check your local listings.
Normally when a holiday falls on Sunday, employees are given Monday off as the observed day and when it falls on a Saturday, they are given the preceding Friday off. etc. … observed might not be the traditional or "real" date.
Be Aware if a federal legal holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
Actual source to confirm all Federal "observed" holidays is the (OPM) Office of Personnel Management Here is the link for the Federal 2009 holidays–Operating Status & Schedules from OMP

Other great scheduling and traveling tips:
2009 U.S. Daylight Savings Time (DST)
• Starts: March 8, 2009 at 2am (set clocks ahead one hour)
• Ends: November 1, 2009 at 2am (set clocks back one hour)
Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Nation) and Hawaii and the territories of Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa are the only places in the U.S. that do not observe DST but instead stay on "standard time" all year long.
