the best break down of where we are at at this point in time, I totally agree with your thoughts ,

now in my later years I only started photograph 10 years ago and these past five years have moved into a more artistic style and digital .

as I saw what was happening and decided to just create what I wanted ,

so with that my style has now brought new clients who are looking for a more creative style to advertise there product although I have moved in to digital black and white, I do not print my self ,

I have a gallery also selling my work , so my photograph studio is now busy again with clients paying my rates for my style of photography I agree with your( I'll focous on photography )it has worked for me this past year,

I just happened upon your site, and am amazed by your insight.
I always said that in any creative field, a misunderstanding of business concepts is what makes a great 'starving artist'. Your thorough analysis of the photo industry is fantastic in clueing in photographers on the evolution of business so that they may plan accordingly. You could have had pointless personal opinion, but instead were truly informative. Many creatives today want to be creative, but have no foundation in what they're doing, their main goal is to be 'rich and famous' instead of 'very competent craftsmen' and the results show it. A monkey can press a button on a $8000 camera, but it doesn't make him a photographer. As technology progresses, everyone will eventually afford an older high end camera, then when all tools are to a certain level, only skill will differentiate the artists from the frauds. I want to be a fashion photographer, but that field is in a decline http://www.slate.com/features/010510_fashion-slide-show/01.htm - simply because newer photographers are full of ego, and don't care whether they're good or not, they only care how well they can market their personality. So I guess I'll focus on my photography, not myself, and wait for the pendulum to swing the other way.
